The AirLive AP/AR use monopole antennas. Monopole antennas are directional and travel longer distance. The wireless signal travel perpendicular to the antenna itself. That means if your AP's antenna is pointing straight-up, the area above or below have very poor reception. For this reason, to increase the signal on the floor above or below the Access Point, you should:
AirLive AP/AR comes with 2 antennas, you should have one antenna pointing straight-up and the other pointing forward( see the picture). Then it can cover the entire area better.
If the AP is installed on the lowest floor, you should move the AP higher. Conversely, if the AP is on the upper most floor, you should move the AP lower.
In the multi-floor environment with stairway, you should install the AP in the stairway area to make the signal travel up and down without obstruction.
The 802.11b uses the same frequency band as 2.4Ghz cordless phone and blue tooth device, therefore the WLAN is easily interfered by cordless phone and bluetooth device. Please avoid using the same channel as the cordless phone.
If using the USB wireless adapter, you can adjust the antenna position parallel to AP's antenna to get better reception.
